Henry IV king of France, was visiting a village one day with some members of his court when they approached a very poor man who bowed himself completely to the ground. The monarch responded by doing the same thing. Those with him were astonished. When one of them asked why he condescended to return the salutation in the same manner, Henry IV quickly replied, "Would your king be excelled in politeness by one of the most lowly of his subjects?" A little courtesy goes a long way in diplomacy.
